RASA Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training
& Embodied Philosophy Program

The RASA Yoga Teacher Training & Embodied Philosophy Program is a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified exploration into the heart of the yoga asana and philosophical tradition. RASA stands apart from other yoga teacher training programs in providing more contact hours in yoga philosophy than any other teacher training available. True to Embodied Philosophy's commitment to philosophy made relevant for modern life, a key component to this teacher training will be encouraging the integration of yoga philosophical principles into everyday experience. The objective is not to simply become a yoga teacher, but to become a vessel for the teachings of this great, wide-ranging tradition. To be a vessel implies that these principles and concepts have been explored and experimented with on an everyday, embodied level, and as a community of teachers and teachers-in-training, we will explore ways to bring these ancient teachings alive in our daily experience. The teachers of this program firmly believe that growth as a yogi is synonymous with your growth as a human being.

The Teachers

Where the body goes, the mind will follow. Jimmy's group classes are a rigorous, fluid vinyasa-based class that encourage students to use their yoga practice as a way to create space in their lives for unceasing grace. Every experience can become an opportunity to grow in grace if viewed properly. When we are able to become more present, we start to tap into the limitless qualities of our being (described in yoga philosophy as a state of satchidananda, or Truth-Knowledge-Bliss) and this gives us something invaluable to share with the world around us.

Jimmy has 10 years of teaching experience and has lead retreats, workshops, kirtans, and has directed and been on the faculty of several Yoga Teacher Training Programs throughout the east coast and midwest. A devoted bhakti yogi, Jimmy firmly believes in the purity of the original yogic philosophy and tries to stay true to that in both his classes and his everyday life. His love of teaching is evident in the enthusiastic manner in which he leads his classes. For more about Jimmy Nataraj, check out his website at www.jimmynataraj.com.

JACOB KYLE (Program co-director)

Jacob Kyle is an NYC-based yoga teacher, writer and philosophy enthusiast.  He spent many years studying abstract Western ideas and philosophies before recognizing that what he really sought was an embodied philosophy connecting him to his heart and spirit. He holds two Masters degrees in political philosophy and the history of philosophy from the London School of Economics and the New School for Social Research. He is a frequent contributor to Elephant Journal and the creator of Five Tattvas, an organization that seeks to integrate mind, body, and heart through online content, workshops, trainings, and retreats committed to "embodied philosophy" for modern living. jacobkyleyoga.com

Dana began teaching yoga in 2005, offering vinyasa classes known for their spirit, strength, and safety across New York City.  She joined the senior staff at Pure Yoga in 2008, expanding her teaching to therapeutic classes, as well as teaching in Pure's renowned 200 hour Teacher Training and Professional Mentorship Program.

Despite her love of classes, Dana saw the great need for one-on-one, specialized therapeutic teaching in the tradition of "yoga chikitsa" - "yoga medicine."  In 2010, she served as Managing Teacher at Pure West, and eventually cocreated the 300 hr advanced teacher training program at Yoga Vida.  Dana completed over 1100 hours of yoga, Ayurveda, meditation, and yoga therapy training with Guru Dharam, Dana Flynn, Dr. Marc Halpern and Yogi Charu - becoming one of the first certified yoga therapists in the US.

In 2012, Dana founded Prema Yoga Institute, New York's premiere yoga therapy school.  PYI offers a radical collaboration between wellness professionals devoted to yoga, bridging the gaps between yoga and healthcare and academia and yoga.  PYI prepares wellness professionals to provide yoga and mindfulness to diverse populations - regardless of any injuries or limitations present.

After years of a practice that was more focused on the asana part of yoga and its benefits to the fitness of my body, I wanted to start exploring ways to get my mind and soul more connected to what I was doing on the mat. While the RASA teacher training did accomplish that, it also provided me with tools that have helped me beyond the mat and has transformed the way I see the world and relate to people and experiences. It’s a must-do for anyone seeking to add some mental and spiritual depth to their practice

— Patty Laxton

“I found the RASA teacher training to be an extraordinary educational experience and personal journey. It’s an excellent basic introduction to the philosophical foundations of yoga. The teachers practice and teach yoga and are well versed in the tenets of the philosophies which they each embody through traditional and eclectic spiritual practices of their own. Through lecture, discussion, exercises, and chanting, academic concepts in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions come alive. The class is thoughtfully constructed and fun. The teachers approach the material with great respect and humor and create a community environment wherein all group members feel comfortable exploring the information together in an intimate setting. The class is thoughtfully constructed and of benefit to beginners and more advanced students and teachers alike."

— Cathey Baier, Acupuncturist & Astrologer

“Studying with Jimmy is unlike any training experience out there. Jimmy’s personal yoga is embodied and lived in his daily life, and in this way he is a living example of bhakti. As a student it is profoundly inspiring to not only study the kriya yoga practices from someone with such a rich understanding, but to learn by his example. Jimmy also has a way of making the ancient and mystical relevant and approachable.

Teacher training gave me access to the tools that help keep me curious and open to my own life. In addition to sparking a major interest in understanding yogic texts and living the practices, one of the biggest impacts has been my personal commitment to practicing gratitude. In this way, whether I am teaching a yoga class, having a meal with family, or at my day job, I am reminded that I always have more to give."

— Sophie Honik, Psychotherapist

“Teacher Training with Jimmy Nataraj was a life changing experience— and a very unexpected one at that. My yoga practice at that time was very one dimensional with all interest and focus only on asana. I enrolled in TT simply because I wanted “more yoga in my life”; I couldn’t explain it beyond that. I had every intention of just “getting through/suffering through” the philosophy portion of TT. I saw it as a sort of necessary evil to get to what I wanted (asana).

I was so taken by the philosophy portion of teacher training. Almost immediately, the asana took a back burner. The background for why we do what we do on the mat was so fascinating to me. I found familiarity and comfort in chanting and the meditating, even though both things were brand new to me. I found a road and a connection to the divine that I never knew I was lacking or yearning for or searching for. It was like coming home after wandering aimlessly and being wrapped in a warm, fuzzy blanket.

My practice therefore changed because of this experience. I come to the mat for different reasons now and it is more fulfilling and satisfying. It has brought me a feeling of connection, peace and contentment that I didn’t know existed. My practice is now multidimensional, and I am so grateful.

Jimmy is without a doubt a true yogi. But in a down to earth, real and useful way. He is knowledgeable, accepting, an excellent teacher and clearly has a true passion for yoga and all its teachings. Teacher training, specifically TT with Jimmy, presented new ideas for me and created an open, accepting environment for learning and exploring these new ideas. TT with Jimmy was a true gift from the universe.
