What is Eastern Philosophy? [Video]

In this video Jacob explores a general definition of Eastern Philosophy that includes the traditions that arose out of India, China, Tibet and Southeast Asia. These philosophies contrast with Western ones in having a practical component.

Jacob discusses why the word "Eastern" is a misnomer, as it implies a homogeneity where there is none. Nonetheless, he explores how the term Eastern Philosophy can be an illuminating term. He reimagines the word "Eastern" to encompass all those traditions that force us to think differently than the frames and conceptions of reality that dominate the Western mind. He looks at other reasons why we need Eastern Philosophy in our culture today.
